Healthy (and Cheap!) Ways to Treat Yo Self

A lot of us have a love/hate relationship with the concept of "treat yo self" - specifying a date or time to go all out in treating ourselves.

I tend to think that this encourages lavish wastefulness more often, but I've also been reflecting on how important it is to show ourselves some love sometimes.

So today's roundup is a list of healthy, inexpensive and easy ways to treat yo self.

The biggest thing to remember is that it's all in the mindset. Remind yourself that this isn't just another day at the pool or walk in the park - it's time specifically set aside for you to enjoy.

  1. Take a hike. Or take a yoga class, ride a bike, or even just lounge by the pool after a few laps. Getting active will make you happy and it's one of the very easiest ways to treat yourself right. It's a win-win.
  2. Drink a green smoothie. Who could have thought that vegetables would make the list? Simple Green Smoothies has a ton of recipes that are to die for, and you don't even realize how healthy they are. Get some cute paper or glass straws to make it even more special.
  3. Have a spa day. Take a weekend morning and pamper yourself - do your nails, pop on a face mask and take a bath (and use those bath bombs you've had stored for far too long). You don't even have to buy supplies if you can make the mask yourself.
  4. Invest in some tea you love. After many years, I've finally become a tea lover - don't tell my coffee maker. I'm obsessed with Stash's Moroccan Mint Tea and any Earl Grey I can get my hands on right now. Tea isn't just a beverage - the whole ritual is calming and bursting with opportunity for self-reflection and self-care.

Like I said, it's all in the way you see it - self-care doesn't have to mean a day of shopping or of extravagant meals.
